Chapter 19: Myth—Sexuality Doesn’t Matter

When you’ve got godly reason as the guard to your heart, it will warn
you whenever you are crossing a sexually immoral line with God. You only have to listen to the soft voice that raises the spiritual caution flag. If it feels uncomfortable, don’t do it. If it seems perverse, don’t do it. If it involves public exhibitionism, don’t do it. Most of this is simple common sense
when you realize sanctified sex occurs in the privacy of a married couple’s bedroom. Again, this is husband and wife wherever they sleep.
Having sex with someone you love in the context of the traditional
marriage bed can take you beyond the mere physical aspects of sex and into the spirituality of oneness of flesh. This oneness of flesh can also take you and your lover [spouse] into a place of oneness with God. I lost track of the number of times both Jackie and I were taken to a place of wonder during sex that only a true oneness of flesh can take you with God. Those who
have experienced this know what I am talking about. You don’t get that kind of heightened spiritually based sexual experience with a cheap date on a one-night stand in some sleazy hotel room. This is a spiritual experience!
Reason is the guard that keeps your heart straight. In 1959, I was prowling the streets of Minneapolis hunting for a sweetheart. I was only 13 years of age. In those days, a guy would have to date a girl for months if not a couple years before he could get to first base [petting]. If you were able to
get anywhere with a girl faster and in a matter of only a few dates, that girl was said to be easy [a slut]. All the boys wanted to date a promiscuous girl, but none wanted to marry her. I’ve observed the same male behavior all my life. Many women don’t really get this male irony. In the age of women’s
lib, many simply move in with a man and give him all the sex he wants.
Women often then find out that marriage becomes the last thing on their man’s mind. Many articles and books have been written on the subject
of living together, which document the problems associated with couples in cohabitation. This includes a substantially greater chance of divorce should a cohabitating couple decide to later get married 42. Common sense suggests that a lack of 100% commitment at the start of living together would lead to
a less than 100% commitment after marriage at a later date. Go search the Internet and study up on this issue.
