“And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of

righteousness. I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members

as slaves of righteousness for holiness. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.” Romans 6:18-20

“I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who

wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin, which is in my members [flesh].”

Romans 7:21-23

Apostle Paul knew that perfection on his own strength would not be possible in this earthly life, but that he could still be a slave to righteousness.

What does this mean? It means that we have obtained the gatekeeper from God and/or we have acknowledged His internal laws written on our hearts and minds. It means that we now strive to live and abide by His laws and that we do not practice sin. We were a slave to our flesh and sin, but now

we are slaves to righteousness. This doesn’t mean our flesh can’t rule at times, as it can. It means that as we walk in His Spirit, we can deny the natural inclinations of our heart and flesh towards evil. God gave up His expectations for our human perfection when He gave us His Son.

In the practical sense, you can consider the homosexual who has come clean with God and ceased practicing his homosexuality. But then soon is confronted with a relapse on a night when his spirit was weak and his flesh

was strong. This will not get him into trouble with God, because the blood of Christ has him covered. Yet, in contrast, is the homosexual who simply ignores all of the precursors. He knows that if he goes to a Gay bar that he will “hook up” for the night. The fear of God should set in at that point!

This is different than a bad event “in the flesh.” God knows we can’t be perfect, but He expects us to walk “in the Spirit” and not the flesh.
