Chapter 19: Myth—Sexuality Doesn’t Matter

Of course, I also somewhat felt stupid. I laughed as I told my sister in

law Candy and her husband Al. “What a pickup line, huh? God wants us to be together? I’ll bet that’s the first time you’ve heard that line.” Candy said no and indicated that Al had once told her the same thing. Still, it was both a funny and to my intellectual side stupid conversation. So I asked God why

He would have me tell her that. Here is the substance of His answer and part of the email letter that I later sent to her.

Dear ______,

It didn’t take long after our meeting last Thursday evening for me to ask God exactly why He would have me tell you that we are meant to be together for the rest of our lives. It isn’t the first time God has asked me to do something I personally think borders as the actions of a fool or even some

spiritual fruitcake. Trust me, I’ve met many of them.

So, God … Why?

The answer God gave me is this. “Ed, love flows from the committed heart. Not from the human flesh. Isn’t that how it was when you chose to love Me?” Of course, it is true. I first chose to love God and THEN love flowed freely from my heart AFTER I made the choice of my heart. He made it

clear to me that it pertained to our human love also. First comes the choice. For me, it becomes a choice of the love that God has chosen for me. I know that only she could be a perfect love. The kind that lasts a lifetime and the kind that Jackie and I had.

I began to reflect back on the event when God gave me the “I know” inside of me concerning Jackie Bowers. I knew her at the time even less than I know you. I knew even less about her than I know about you. As I chased

her around the proverbial dining room table, she asked: “Why me?” I told her I just know it is you that I am supposed to be with. She also said: “I’ve done some things in my past” — But, I stopped her before she could continue on and said: “I do not care about whatever occurred in your past.

I only care about making a new life together with you.” Any choice of the heart always begins with a lot of uncertainty.
