Myth—God Owns Solid Rock

On a given Bible study in our small assembly, we would spend at least

two solid hours studying God’s Word. That is a minimum of 120 minutes per week in contrast to 10-minutes in many churches. Let’s run the numbers and calculate what you may be getting taught in your one-hour service. If the sermon is only 10-minutes in length, in a 52-week year, you receive 520

minutes or 8.7 hours of instruction on God’s word. Odds are strong that in this same time, the weekly sermons would be less than 50% concentrated on the actual word of God. Therefore, our little assembly would cover more Scripture in two weeks than the average mainline church covers in an entire

year. Don’t think just because you lug your Bible to a WOF church and spend 4-6 hours in an emotional service it is much better. I have carefully tracked many of the messages of these churches and they recycle the same stuff most of the time. Therefore, if you are a member of a WOF church, there is no doubt you are clocking more “in-church” hours. However, there

is serious doubt if you are being taught anything more substantive from the Holy Bible than if you spent only one-hour a week in a mainline church.

This brings up the importance of getting into a solid Bible based

church and also getting into a small Bible study group. One thing your family can do is to start reading a chapter a night at the dinner table. In an age when biblical knowledge may make a difference in your eternal soul, can you understand why you need to be reading the Bible? God makes it

very clear that our faith is built up by hearing His Word.

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 NKJV

This isn’t rocket science. How do you learn and master any subject? You study it. Reading instead of listening provides an estimated 75% of our knowledge. Therefore, if you never read your Bible, good luck. Jesus may

say that you were lawless because you were mentally clueless about Bible teachings. Let me add another caveat. You might spend as much as 12-20 hours a week in a WOF church through various services like I did and still get very little Bible teaching. Why? It’s because their mainstay of health

and wealth messages constantly recycle the same verses. Start writing dates alongside Bible verses taught and you will get a rude awakening.
