Myth—God Owns Solid Rock
Another illustration is that of politics. I suspect that at some point in
our U.S. history, we could recognize the validity of the statement that our President must have more facts than we do in the general public. Therefore, we are not usually in a position to really debate the merits of his decisions. That said, it is really remarkable how the public can be whipped up into a
frenzy by political demagoguery that misstates facts or leaves some unsaid. People get angry and rant and rave without knowing anything except second hand knowledge and hearsay. You know—“So and so said this and that and I know for sure it must be fact.” Therefore, I have the right to be mad. Do
you really know for sure? I doubt it. The manipulation of the minds of the public is an unmistakable fact in our society. Likewise pulpit manipulation of the minds of Christians is also an unmistakable fact.
Writer Lonny Kocina in his book Media Hypnosis: Unleashing The
Most Powerful Sales Tool On Earth, (Mid-America Entertainment, Inc., 2002), speaks from over 15 years of direct experience in staging news stories for various companies. Yes, I said staging news stories. We are not just getting bombed with information from the pulpit and media; product
advertisements of all type are also bombing us. Simply put, our minds are shutting down to most product ads. Society has become incredibly noisy to our minds with everything that is going on. One hundred years ago, people did operate mainly off of first hand knowledge that everyone shared. Today,
however, the sheer level of sensory input each one of us is exposed to is literally 200-1,000 times larger than our ancestors were exposed to. No one can keep up mentally and most of us no longer make any attempt to try.
Ads are the ultimate turn off to our minds. We now have machines like the TIVO recorder that will not only record the television, cable or satellite shows we like, they also give us the convenience of skipping all the advertisements of the show. A three-hour Titanic movie just ran on regular
television two nights ago in a four-hour time slot. Therefore, you had to endure one hour of advertisements if you watched the show. Do the math here and you’ll find that your senses are being assaulted 25% of the time with paid commercials. Kocina’s company, Media Relations, Inc. has found
another way to penetrate your mind with product information. Instead of placing advertisements, his company converts product ads into news stories.
