Now let’s return to the ex-Jesuit Priest Jack Miles and my discussion

in the last chapter. Miles wrote the book Christ: A Crisis in the Life of God, Copyright 2001, Alfred A. Knopf, NY.14 Do you recall seven conclusions Jack reached about God’s character as he rationalized the trinity doctrine?

Miles in his trinity rationalization has God doing the following seven things. He believes they are attributes of the character of God. However, does Scripture really support these characteristics of God or does Scripture teach us something different altogether? Jack concludes that God is …

1. Changing 2. Repenting 3. Needing a way to fail 4. Talking to Himself

5. Committing Suicide 6. Breaking Promises 7. 100% Man and 100% God

“That the Son and the Father are identical gives Jesus’ prayers a peculiarly contemporary cast inasmuch as he is praying to himself.” 15 Jack Miles believes that God prays to Himself. Do you?

Remember, that if you want to accept the trinity doctrine, you have to conclude the same things that Jack Miles has concluded; at least if you are intellectually honest with yourself. If God allowed Himself to die on the cross, God did commit suicide. If you did just start to read this book with

this chapter, go back and read the last chapter as I cannot repeat it all again. You will miss foundational teachings if you do not. Indeed, Jack Miles reached some honest conclusions in his book with these characteristics.

If you want to understand Christianity, as it exists today, Jack Mile’s book is a good place to start. I believe it is the best explanation of the trinity doctrine that you will find. However, it is a rationalization of man, which lacks full Scripture support. Remember this, if I show you a single Scripture

that speaks directly against any Bible doctrine, then that doctrine is false according to Scripture.
