Now let’s move through the rest of the Scripture citations that could

support the trinity doctrine. Compare your own Bible to the verses shown below and see if you agree with my assessment of whether the verse provides any clear and direct support for the trinity doctrine. Where there are simple and clear verses opposing the one cited by Hagee, I will provide

them along with commentary, if needed, directly below Hagee’s citation.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

Hagee ref #3. Is it direct support for trinity doctrine? No!

Commentary: John 1:1 is an oft referred to verse in support of a trinity. However, there is no direct support for the trinity doctrine in this

verse. There is only implied support, but you need man’s opinion to accept such a doctrine. You cannot read the Word and clearly see such a doctrine. We know that the Word of God incarnate was Jesus Christ. However, there is nothing here that indicates Jesus did not just get a “download” from God

of His Word. Whose word is it anyway? It is God Almighty’s Word. That He gave the Word to Christ to speak cannot be denied.

Running directly opposite to this verse are the words of Jesus Christ in

Revelations 3:14 stating clearly “[I Jesus am] the Beginning of the creation of God!” The NCV translation reads, “[I Jesus am] the Beginning of all that God has made.” These very words of Jesus are clear and in opposition to the implied trinity of John 1:1. Which do you accept as truth? Jesus words? In

one case, you will need a leap of faith because the Scripture itself does not support the doctrine. In the second case, you need only accept what Jesus has said. Note that Jesus did not state he was present at the beginning of creation. Jesus said, “He was the beginning of creation.” Note also that

Jesus said it was God’s creation, not his own.
