Chapter 10: The False Trinity Doctrine
Page 43
There are countless denominations and sects in Christianity. It seems like each one has to have its own special belief or truth to attract members.
This doctrine is no different. However, once again there is Scripture and the multiple translations that can be referenced for truth. So let’s go get some translations and see how they compare Luke 23:43. Where is the comma supposed to be?
Bible Comma before or after the word today?
KVJ Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise. NKJV Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise. LIV Today you will be with me in Paradise. This is a solemn promise.
NLT I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise. NJB In truth I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise. NIV I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.
RSV Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise. NRSV Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise. NAB Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.
NASB Truly I say to you, today you shall be with me in Paradise. GW I can guarantee this truth: Today you will be with me in paradise. NCV I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.
GNB I promise you that today you will be in Paradise with me. REB Truly I tell you: today you will be with me in Paradise. DB Verily I say to thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
YLT Verily I say to thee, To-day with me shalt thou be in the paradise. AMP Truly I tell you, today you shall be with me in Paradise. WEY [T]his very day you shall be with me in Paradise
WEB Verily I say to thee, This day shalt thou be with me in paradise. SET I am telling you the truth: Today you will be with me in paradise.
There are twenty (20) different Bibles listed in the above table and not one suggests that the comma be shifted to the other side of the word “today” to alter the meaning of the verse. The lesson is simple enough. You are to let Scripture speak for itself. Do not modify the expressed meaning of any
Scripture to suit your doctrine. If in doubt about a doctrine, go fetch a bunch of Bibles to compare against each other.
