Myth—Abortion Doesn’t Matter
Life of Mother Abortions
We don’t know who will be a future descendant and that is why we should not abort any baby for any reason other than as needed to save the life of the mother. And guess what? It is not a given that this would be
every mother’s choice, because many mothers would sacrifice their own life in a heartbeat so that their baby could live. There is a strong connection and spiritual bond between a child and its mother. It is the kind that allows a mother to offer her own life to save her child’s life. Why? Her spirit can
transcend the nature of our earthly journey and look down the line towards the future descendants of her child. She recognizes that her role as an ancestor is already fixed, but her child’s descendants is not. Such a decision is a choice of love and it surely carries with it God’s eternal perspective.
“No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13 NRSV
Of course, Jesus was talking about the life he was getting ready to lay down for his disciples, but the principle is universal when it comes to great love. Isn’t it easier for a parent to sacrifice their life for their child’s? I believe that where there is true love, this is an instinctive characteristic and
not something that a parent has to think much about. Great love makes great sacrifices and such love can be found throughout humanity among those who do not insist on their own way. It fulfills God’s teaching in 1 Cor. 13.
“Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all
things, hopes all things, [and] endures all things.” 1 Cor. 13:4-7 NRSV
Love Does Not Insist On Its Own Way!
The New Living Translation states: “Love does not demand its own way.” Yet isn’t that exactly what the 34-year old Manhattan woman did?
