Myth—Abortion Doesn’t Matter

purposes, but the prior family tree of Archie was exact. Archie to his third generation has already engendered 25 human lives. His descendants in the 41st generation might add up into the thousands, since growth is geometric in nature. Archie’s descendants are also reflective of a period in society that

socially stigmatized large families.

When Jackie and I had three children walking with us, many looked down upon us as having too many children and being irresponsible. That is

the way attitudes were in the 1970’s. Today, men and women marry later in life and have even fewer children. However, that is not how it was in the time of Jacob, when he fathered twelve children. Jackie had wanted a dozen children, but fate required us to stop at the fourth live birth. Who except God knows what lies in the future of a baby? It is possible that descendants

down stream generations later can actually cross one another’s path leading to countless variations in humanity. This is represented by point “A” in the above graphic illustrating family trees. You are a descendant of all your ancestors’ efforts. Any one of their abortions would have deleted you.

In this real sense, aborting a baby commits genocide on that baby’s God given line of descendants. Doesn’t God tell us this much in Deut. 30:19 and isn’t life a choice of the heart as discussed previously in chapter seven?

Listen and consider His Holy Word again as it may be clearer in the context of abortion. “Choose life so that you and your descendants may live!”

“I call Heaven and earth to witness against you today that I

have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.” Deut. 30:19 NRSV

The above graphic illustrates several important issues in the abortion debate. First consider that God opened the womb of Leah allowing her to conceive. Later He opened the womb of Rachel.
