Myth—Abortion Doesn’t Matter

Two sons are given the instruction from their father to go and work in his vineyard. One rebels with his mouth and says “No!” But after a little

thought, he gives in to his heart and obeys his father. The other uses his mind and intellect to deceive his father. He knows that the father probably won’t go out and check up on him in the vineyard. So, he says: “Yes!” But, he does not go. Here is a clear example of how the intellect and heart work.

Verily I say unto you, it is those whose heart is with God that will obey Him. Those who operate solely off of their intellect will deceive themselves even as they think they are deceiving God. Only ignorant people think they can deceive God with such pretenses. God Himself knows our heart’s intent.

Now go back to the opening verse in this chapter. Exodus 21:22-25 is cited from the New Revised Standard Version. Meditate on this verse and translation for a moment. Does the Bible state that the fetus’ life is worth less than the mother’s life? Certainly seems that way, doesn’t it? In fact,

that is exactly what many would argue using the NRSV Bible translation. However, if your heart is with God, something doesn’t add up with the translation. Why? All you have to do is to consider love. The Living Bible says “love does no wrong to anyone.” Look at and carefully consider the

5. Is not irritable or resentful 6. Does not rejoice in wrongdoing 7. Rejoices in truth 8. Bears all things, believes all things

9. Hopes all things, endures all things

I submit to you a simple fact. If you take the position that the NRSV translation of Exodus 21:22-25 is true and that there is a different value

placed on the life of the fetus and the mother—you do not know God! Just look at the love instructions and ask yourself this question. “Isn’t there a
