Myth—Abortion Doesn’t Matter

It is almost February and as I have reflected upon the last chapter, two

spiritual thoughts remain stuck in my mind. The first is the issue of all the ceremonies. If you compare Christianity, Judaism and Islam, you will find a variety of ceremonies used in these religions to allow an expression of faith. However, God’s Word makes it abundantly clear that we are no longer under

any requirement to observe further rituals, the religious rules and mandates. Jesus said: “Go directly to the Father with your [sincere heart and righteous] petitions.” Therefore, what really matters to God is the spiritual intent inside of your heart. If your heart is truly with God, you won’t have

any difficultly understanding why abortion is such an abomination to Him.

The second issue that stuck in my mind is that of the rationalization of mankind, which now comes to bear on the issue of abortion. I felt like I was choking [spiritually] as I read the many rationalizations of Christian pastors,

ministers and others who assert that the Bible actually supports abortion.

I was not prepared for the sorrow and pain I felt over this last week just reading and studying those rationalizations. Verses in the Bible are

contorted to rationalize abortion. Some claim abortion is of service to God.

Jesus said: “What do you think? A man had two sons; he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard

today.’ He answered, ‘I will not’; but later he changed his mind and went. The father [then] went to the second and said the same; and he answered, ‘I go, sir’; but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said,

“The first.”

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of

you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him [and turned to righteousness]; and even after you saw it, you [still] did not change your minds

and believe him [by turning yourselves to righteousness].” Matthew 21:28-32 NRSV
