Myth—Abortion Doesn’t Matter

“What he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord, and

[so] He put him [Onan] to death also.” Genesis 38:10 NRSV

At this point, it was the duty of Judah’s third son Shelah to take up Tamar as his wife and provide her with an heir for his brother Er. However,

Shelah was too young so Judah sent Tamar to her father’s house until he got older. It seems that Judah then decided not to take a chance with Shelah so he basically ignored Tamar’s rights under family custom and Jewish law.

After Judah’s wife died, he took a trip to Timnah to his sheepshearers. Tamar knew about the trip and posed as a harlot along the road. Judah then unwittingly had sex [incest] with his daughter in law. She obtained a pledge of Judah’s signet, cord and staff until he later delivered a “young goat” he promised for her sexual services. Of course, when the goat was sent, the

harlot Judah thought he had sex with and his pledge were never located.

Later Tamar is discovered with child and Judah is forced to deal with the fact he had withheld Shelah and was unrighteous in the matter towards

Tamar. He also had to deal with the fact it was Tamar, his own daughter in law, whom he had sex with and not some harlot practicing along the road. Out of this unknown act of incest, Judah’s semen gave Tamar twins whose names were Perez and Zerah. Perez is the fourth generation from Abraham

in the lineage of Jesus Christ.

If Perez would have been aborted, 36 successive generations would not have followed and Jesus would not have been raised as Joseph’s son as

God designed. But you say, Edward, God would still have had Jesus born! If you think that, you miss the point of generational genocide when a baby is aborted. Substitute your own family here. Now remove your father’s life from the equation. Where does that leave you? It deletes you! The point

here is that only God knows the future of our descendants. When you mess with human life, you mess with God’s perfect design for the future.

God can open the womb and even sanction a baby’s birth that was the

result of an act of incest. God can also kill a baby He doesn’t want to live. That is what happened to King David with the first child born of Bathsheba
