It is not the government’s moral job to take care of family members!

In God’s eyes, government should be the last resort and not an easy tactic to gain a larger discretionary family budget at the expense of taxpayers. Listen to Paul’s instruction on taking care of widows, as it is a clear example of widows with family and widows without family and how even grandchildren

are responsible for taking care of their elderly grandparents in need. Pay attention now. If you are truly a Christian, then God’s Word should be reflected in the public policies of your political party, the nation and in your election votes! Politics does matter.

“Honor widows who are really widows. But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God.” 1 Tim. 5:3-4

Yes, some 2000 years ago people were also sponging off of others because families turned their backs on their moral obligation to care for one another. Piety in the simple sense of this Bible verse means having fidelity

to the natural obligations of caring for parents and other family members.

Piety 3 1: the quality or state of being pious: as a: fidelity to natural obligations (as to parents)

b: dutifulness in religion: DEVOUTNESS

There are religious communities that do understand Paul’s teaching. Mormons as a subset of Christianity, even with some theological issues I

take exception to, clearly takes care of everyone within their society. Of course, they do not pay social security taxes and instead provide for their own with a ten percent tithe strategy and collective assistance to one another. It’s a good family care strategy and tradeoff for them from a tax perspective.

The point here, however, is that what they do in caring for families is what God wants all of us to do. Don’t shove your family member onto welfare or Medicaid programs when you know that you could help them make a better life. Whose help will be more meaningful to family in the long run? It isn’t

the government’s whose programs tend to enslave people rather than give them a helping hand that lifts them out of their problem.
