Myth—God Heals Everyone
Suppose for a moment that a Charismatic fellow claims that God will
always heal him. To illustrate the point, he jumps out in front of a semi truck with 18 wheels and gets mangled. After months in the hospital and two years of physical therapy, he says to you that it proves he was right. I’ll tell you what it proves. It proves he was stupid and that God was gracious.
When he says he can do it again to prove the truth of the point, do you think he has much upstairs in the brain department? If he does, do you think God will still be gracious? God’s grace is at the center of all divine healing.
Jesus said to them, “When you pray, say Your
[Yahweh, God Almighty, Father] will be done On earth as it is in Heaven.” Luke 11:2
Prayer. Lord, teach us to understand Your sovereignty, grace and
mercy. Teach us to pray like Jesus did and seek Your will and not ours.
One only needs to carefully study the story of King David. He fasted and prayed while his son was stricken. In the end, the child died. When
asked why he stopped his grieving, he gives us an enlightening illustration of God’s sovereignty. Go back and study this lack of healing in 2 Samuel 12:21-23 despite the sincere prayer of King David. Therefore, between King David and King Hezekiah, we have both situations when it comes to healing
as a result of prayer. In one case healing was denied and in the other healing took place. But in both cases, it was the grace of God. Both David and Hezekiah acknowledged God’s sovereignty over their life and death. Do you? If not, death will not make much sense to you and your suffering will
continue unabated when a loved one dies. You will not understand like King David and I do that you too will go to see your loved one some day, but that your loved one will not come back to earth to see you.
But Edward you say, Jesus always healed people! To which I would reply: “You are misinformed of biblical facts.” Consider the following Bible verse if you think Jesus always healed everyone.
“Now he did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” Matthew 13:55-58 NKJV
