Myth—God Heals Everyone

Today, medical science has advanced far ahead of where it was in the 1960’s. Place a feeding tube directly into the stomach of an almost dead

body and combine it with IV fluids, meds, antibiotics and oxygen machines and you can keep a human body going almost indefinitely. This is very true if there exists no pathological disease eating away at the human body such as pancreatic cancer. We even have machines to keep the heart going if needed

shocking it back into operating condition or forcing it to contract and expand with electrical signals as needed. In essence, all that is left to do is to keep moving the body periodically to prevent skin ulcers from forming. After our experience with Aunt Bernice, Jackie and I agreed that neither of us would

want machines to keep our bodies going over a protracted period of time. It is a hideous and even odious thing that people do when they simply cannot let go of a loved one whose spirit has left the body or is unduly entrapped in a body that can no longer function with a mind as God designed.

The controversy over keeping a human body going indefinitely was center stage in the societal debate over whether or not to remove the feeding tube from Terri Schiavo in Florida. The debate was likened to starving her to death by “refusing” to give her food. However, if God wanted us fed with

a stomach tube supplied externally with food, He would have equipped our bodies with such a tube and provided attendants 24 hours a day to meet our needs. If the idea of dehydration during the death process seems repulsive to you, it is because you are ignorant of the body’s natural dying process. It is

a natural thing that the spirit rejects food and nutrition as it begins to shut down the body in the death process. In fact, food can cause more pain in the body as the spirit-soul attempts to shut things down and exit this earth, shedding its human flesh. Medical intervention can unduly restrain a spirit.

Do you believe it is righteous to keep someone on a feeding tube indefinitely? For fifteen years? It is unrighteous and self-serving to those who cannot cope with death. It is also shameful to state that it is wrong in

the eyes of God to remove a feeding tube kept in for so long. This isn’t a right to life issue like abortion, which kills a fully functioning human. This is about the right to die a natural death with some amount of dignity after a period of exhaustive medical intervention in the mechanically un-tethered

body that God Almighty gave us. Terri died on March 31, 2005, 13 days after her tube was removed for a third time. This section was updated.
