In the case of a sin against someone’s own body, it is not generally a sin that leads to immediate death. However, it is a slow killer of our own flesh. It is akin to the mythical story of a frog placed in a pan of cold water.

According to the story, when the water is slowly heated, the frog will be lulled to sleep and eventually get cooked alive. It could prevent its death if it were smarter. The story is illustrative of what happens in our human bodies, but many are not able to stop bad habits. Like the mythical frog, we

think that nothing is amiss with how we are living our lives. We are wrong.

In our teens and twenties, we get away with beating our bodies pretty badly with a variety of health habits. As we get into our thirties, we then

observe that some of our health habits are a cause of physical pain. Maybe it is something small like the Italian hot sauce that we always liked, but which is no longer tolerated by our stomach? Maybe it is that persistent cough which we know is linked to our smoking? Maybe it is the slow buildup of

the alcoholic drinks, because we no longer get a buzz very easily. Now we need 3-4 drinks instead of 1-2 because our body is building up a tolerance for the alcohol. If we don’t change our bad health habits by the time we are in the mid forties, it is payback time. Verily I say to you that I bear witness

to many premature deaths beginning at age 45 and many are linked directly to bad health habits that were sins against the body. Jackie and I had cousins who both drank themselves to death at an early age. It was not God’s plan!

Think Habits, Change Habits!
