Myth—Giving 10% Is A Tithe

When Jesus and his disciples went through a grain field on a Sabbath

day they were hungry. As a result, the disciples picked heads of grain to eat. The instruction in Exodus 16:25-26 from God is clear. “Do not gather food from the field on the Sabbath.” God had already commanded that a man be stoned to death for simply gathering “sticks.” See # 2 & 15 in the above list.

In the eyes of the Pharisees, what the disciples did was worthy of death. It was written in the Law to put men to death for such behavior. Now Christ was on the scene offering a new “Sabbath” and “mercy” perspective.

FACT: God altered the Sabbath laws with Christ’s sacrifice.

“And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, see there! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful and not permitted on the Sabbath.” Matthew 12:2 AMP

Jesus replied that when David was hungry, he and those with him went into the house of God and “ate the loaves of the showbread—which was not lawful for him or those with him to eat.” Jesus continues on with

the following dialogue.

“But I tell you, something greater and more exalted and more majestic than the temple is here! And if you had only

known what this saying means, ‘I desire mercy [readiness to help, to spare, to forgive] rather than sacrifice and sacrificial victims,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless.” Matthew 12:6-7 AMP

“For the Son of Man is Lord [even] of the Sabbath.” Matthew 12:8 AMP

FACT: Jesus did not observe all the ritual laws of the Sabbath.

“Then some of the Pharisees said, ‘This man [Jesus] is not from God, because he does not observe the Sabbath.’ But

others said, ‘How can a man who is a sinner (a bad man) do such signs and miracles?’ ” John 9:16 AMP
