Myth—Giving 10% Is A Tithe

Think about this for a moment. When the tithe preacher insists that

you need to tithe or you’ll be cursed, is he or she teaching you faith? Or, are they teaching you to “obey the Law?” Matters of the Law are legalistic in nature; matters of faith are by nature of our heart and soul. While both deal with issues of obedience, one is focused on the flesh and the other the spirit.

If you think they are teaching you faith by tithing, you are wrong. They are trying to teach you that you need to be focused on the “sacrifice” of your money, which they claim is “required” of you. Instead of sacrifice, what?

Has your preacher once told you that the tithe is actually a part of the Law? Jesus clearly taught us that much in Matthew 23:23. However, tithing is not just a part of the Law per se [if you think of the Law as the first five books of the Bible], it is a part of the “ceremonial laws” as given by Moses and written in the Book of the Law. If you tithe, you submit to a ceremonial

law or ritual, which you are not supposed to do under the new covenant of Christ. It also means you are cursed unless you obey all of the ceremonial laws. Why? It is because those are the requirements of the old covenant. Those who choose to live under the old covenant [by tithing, etc.] must also

obey all requirements in Moses’ Book of the Law.

“And all who depend on the Law [who are seeking to be justified by obedience to the Law of rituals] (*this includes

any tithing under the ceremonial laws) are under a curse and doomed to disappointment and destruction, for it is written in the Scriptures, cursed (accursed, devoted to destruction, doomed to eternal punishment) be everyone who does not

continue to abide (live and remain) by all the precepts and commands written in the Book of the Law and to practice them.” Galatians 3:10 AMP *Apostle Edward’s comments

“Cursed is he who does not support and give assent to the words of this law to do them [as the rule of his life]. All the people shall say, Amen.” Deuteronomy 27:26 AMP
