the instructions in this chapter for those who intend to murder someone on purpose [like Paul J. Hill did]. Their punishment is summarized in the three preceding verses, which Hill ignores in his essay.

“Whoever kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death on the testimony of witnesses; but one witness is not sufficient testimony against a person for the death penalty. Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall surely be put

to death. And you shall take no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may return to dwell in the land before the death of the priest.” Numbers 35:30-32

The Rev. Michael Bray teaches that Paul J. Hill was a prophet. He is ignorant of God’s righteousness. The Rev. Paul J. Hill teaches people that premeditated murder is justified in God’s eyes as long as it is done with righteous zeal. He too is ignorant of God’s righteousness.

Paul Hill is not a martyr because he was disobedient to God’s written word and commandments. Paul Hill could have taken other non-violent approaches to try and stop this abortion doctor. He did not have to ignore

God’s Word. Like other sinners, his act of violence seemed justifiable in his own eyes [Proverbs 16:2]. Paul Hill thought that this zealous murder was a righteous deed for God. It wasn’t.

Righteousness is what is right in God’s eyes. It is not what we can rationalize to ourselves. Righteousness would have involved obedience to God’s laws. So should we do evil for some type of good?

“If you follow that kind of thinking, however, you might as

well say that the more we sin the better it is! Those who say such things deserve to be condemned, yet some slander me by saying this is what I preach!” Romans 3:8 NLT
