Clearly Moses had some emotions in play during this event of his life. He looked out at the burdens of his brethren and then saw a [severe] beating. No doubt it was a severe beating as the life of a slave was not highly valued.

“He looked all around, and when he didn’t see anyone, he beat the Egyptian to death and hid the body in the sand.” Exodus 2:12 GW

“God’s Word” [GW] translation indicates that Moses “beat” the

Egyptian to death. This was probably by using his bare hands. We have to consider that passion was certainly involved and that this was not a premeditated murder in the sense Paul Hill wants us to take it. Moses did not go out with the specific “intent” of killing this Egyptian taskmaster that

day. Intent does make a difference, doesn’t it?

The second story takes place in Numbers 25 where Phinehas kills Zimri and Cozbi his Midianite woman. Here again, Hill would have you

believe this is the same type of “righteous” murder that he advocates against abortion doctors. Because the Israelites have committed harlotry, God has place upon them a plague. God is angry against those Israelites who have commingled with heathen women. God issues the command to kill all of the

offenders. We pick the story up in Numbers 25:4 with God’s command.

“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Take all the leaders of the people and hang the offenders before the Lord, out in the

sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may turn away from Israel.’ So Moses said to the judges of Israel, ‘Every one of you kill his men who were joined to Baal of Peor.’ ” Numbers 25:4-5
