Chapter 8: Understanding God’s Word

Who benefits from a mixed up understanding that eventually leads
you off the goal you have in mind for yourself and your family? You have the big goal of eternal life for yourself and family, don’t you? I will tell you simply that it is Satan that benefits from your misunderstanding of who God is and what He wants from you.
A speaker I heard gave an excellent sermon once on how a slight shift in direction can lead you astray and cause you to miss your target. Think of traveling from one spot to the next. It is a long distance of say 2,000 miles
and is a straight line. There are no obstacles in your path and let’s assume it is an air flight. Now, imagine the pilot’s navigational gauge is mis- calibrated and it is negative 2% from where it is suppose to be. It is virtually 98% correct, yet off a negative 2%. From the navigational point of view, 360 degrees times 2% means your plane is off a negative 7.2 degrees from
its true flight path. Do you think you will arrive at your destination [target]? Guess again. This is illustrated by the graphic below.
2% Off at Start Goal Path
Satan’s big picture goal is to take you off target in a way that leads you into eternal damnation. Satan doesn’t do this in ways that you can easily recognize the deception. His tool is to shift you slightly off course. To twist Scripture, ever so slightly. To use plausible intellectual arguments like Apostle Paul has provided “a higher teaching” than that of Christ. It is
newer information from God. We Christians are somehow “different” than the Jews in the eyes of God. The rationalization of Satan goes on and on.
