Chapter 8: Understanding God’s Word

Have you ever heard of Bezaleel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah? He seems almost as obscure as Jabez. Do you recall that
Jabez’ prayer was answered by God? In the case of Bezaleel, God did a little more than answer a prayer. God “injected” Bezaleel with the “Spirit of God” in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship. Further, God gave him the ability to teach others. You can
read more about it in Exodus 31-35. So, why did God choose Bezaleel? My guess is that Bezaleel, like Jabez, had a sincere heart for God. There was a desire from deep within Bezaleel to serve and please God Almighty.
When You Give God Your Heart, You’ll Understand!
Once your heart is in the proper place, God provides understanding and many other skills. I used the word “injected” above because God made it clear to Moses that it was He who put these characteristics into Bezaleel.
“See [Moses], I have called by name Bezaleel … and I have filled [injected] him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of
workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood … and all manner of workmanship.” Exodus 31:2-5
“And He has put in [Bezaleel’s] heart the ability to teach, in him and Aholiab ... He has filled them with the skill to do all manner of work of the engraver and the designer and the tapestry maker, in blue and scarlet and fine linen, and of
the weaver—those who do every work and those who design artistic works.” Exodus 35:34-35
Bezaleel didn’t go to a seminary, trade school, college or graduate
school to gain his wisdom, knowledge and understanding. No, instead, God “filled” him with the Spirit, wisdom, understanding, knowledge and the ability to teach others. Therein lies a big quandary for mankind. The world system lays down a gauntlet of educational requirements for specific trades and employment positions. However, God Almighty says: “When your
heart gets right, I will give you everything [all the skills] you need.” Copyright 2005 Edward G. Palmer, All Rights Reserved. Book of Edward—Chapter 8
