Chapter 6: The Heart of an Apostle

Page 32

“After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also,

and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.” Luke 10:1 KJV

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets,

some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers.” Ephesians. 4:11 NKJV

God has never stopped appointing apostles and others to do His work

here on earth and that much is very clear. So, exactly what do apostles do for God? Is it God they serve or Christ they serve? Do apostles make a distinction between God and Christ? If so, why? Aren’t they the same?

Again, using Strong’S® Concordance and a KJV Bible, we can come

up with the following list of things that apostles do for God.

No. Description of Task or Mission Bible Reference

1 Perform Miracles Matthew 10:1,8 2 Preach the Gospel Matthew 28:19-20

3 Witness for Resurrection Acts 1:22 4 Write Scripture Ephesians 3:5

10 Establish Churches Romans 15:17-20 11 Deliver a Message to Jews Jesus & first 12 12 Deliver a Message to Gentiles Paul

The most fundamental and basic task of an apostle is to deliver a message for God. Secondly, and no less important, is to deliver the message

that God gave Jesus Christ to deliver. Christ’s message was the same as all the earlier ones from God concerning salvation: “Repent and be saved.”
