Chapter 14: The Gift of Jesus

“Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been

born of God. In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.” 1 John 3:9-10

We Practice Righteousness; Christ Fills Any Gap!

Therefore, two gifts of Jesus are the indwelling light of the Father and Christ’s ability to fill a gap in our righteousness. You don’t have Jesus

unless your heart is changed towards God. You don’t acknowledge the Father as God unless you repent and are obedient to Him. If you worship Jesus the Son instead of the Son’s God [Father], you mock the gift of the Father [God] whose purpose was to provide you with His light. This light

from Jesus’ sacrifice is the gift of understanding God [the Father].

“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him [God] who is

true; and we are in Him [God] who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ [when we have repented and returned to righteous ways]. This is the true God and eternal life.” 1 John 5:20

In the Gnostic Gospel of Philip 5, written circa 100-200 A.D., we read about those misappropriating the use of the word Christian. Today the word Christian has become corrupted and cannot be faithfully used to describe someone who walks in God’s light. C.S. Lewis in his 1943 classic “Mere

Christianity” 6 explains how misuse started to corrupt the meaning of the word Christian. In the preface, Lewis explains what he means by using the illustration of the corruption of the English word gentleman.

“The word gentleman originally meant something recognizable; one who had a coat of arms and some landed property. When you called someone ‘a gentleman’ you were not paying him a complement, but merely stating a fact. If you said he was not ‘a gentleman’ you were not insulting him, but giving
