Chapter 12: The False Salvation Doctrine
Page 2
MEMO. It is October 7. I finished the last chapter on September 16
and posted it to the web. The preceding Sunday (14th) I almost split my gut laughing as I listened to a local televangelist named Mac1 proclaim that he was starting his new series titled “Matters of the Heart.” The fact that I had posted that section to the web two years earlier and had advertised the site
for weeks in a paper that reached his membership had me musing whether or not some plagiarism was underway. It is often said that copying is a form of flattery. Is it a concern? No, and I pray that sooner rather than later every preacher will instruct their flock on the “Matters of the Heart.”
However, the televangelist did teach something false that you need to properly understand. He said that at the time you came to Christ, your heart was not perfect. The message indicated to me that he thinks that your heart would grow towards God. Let me correct this teaching by stating that your
heart, will either be with God or it won’t. If it is with God, you will at all times be concerned about the things of God. Your heart will not grow to be with God. Being with God is a choice you make with the heart. It is true that the heart becomes more enduring towards God as time passes. Love
does that. Let me explain this to you by using the analogy of the electronic on-off switch that is on computer equipment. Your heart is like the rocker switch having only two positions; “0” is for OFF and “1” is for ON.
